How to Use WORKDAYS: Step-by-Step

Set the rules once

Open Settings, choose your country so its public holidays apply, pick the work week (Monday to Friday, Monday to Saturday, Sunday to Thursday, a half Saturday, or any mix of full, half and free days) and add the holidays only your company takes. The status pill in the toolbar shows what is in force, and every calculator follows it.

Count the days between dates

On Days between, pick a start and an end date, or a preset such as this month, this quarter or this fiscal year. The result updates as you change a date: the working days, the days off, the holidays and the half days, a breakdown table with shares, and a calendar that colours every day and lists the holidays in the range.

Move by business days

Add/Subtract answers "what date is 10 business days from today" or 15 days back for a notice period. Deadline does the same for a project with eight common presets, and its twin finds the latest date you can start to have 30 working days before a deadline. Each shows the calendar days, the days off and the holidays that were skipped.

Total several ranges

Batch takes up to fifty date ranges with a label each (phases, sprints, billing periods), counts every one with the same rules and totals them, then downloads the table as CSV for a plan or an invoice.

Plan your leave

Leave takes the first and last day you want to be away and tells you how many leave days to book, how many weekends and public holidays fall inside for free, and which holidays they are. Move the dates a day or two and watch the number of days you have to book fall.

Keep and reuse

Every result goes into the history, which downloads as CSV or prints. Save the current work week, country and custom holidays under a name (US office, India IT) and load another in a click. Export everything to one backup file and restore it on another browser.

Why Choose WORKDAYS?

๐ŸŒ Holidays for any year, not a pasted list

Most calculators carry a holiday list for one or two years and go quietly wrong after that. WORKDAYS computes each country's holidays by rule: fixed dates, the fourth Thursday of November, the days around Easter, and the substitute days each country uses when a holiday lands on a weekend. Ask for 2031 and the dates are right. Only holidays that follow a lunar calendar need a table, and those are marked.

๐Ÿ“† Your week, not the default one

Offices in Dubai work Sunday to Thursday, shops work six days, many firms take a half Saturday, and shutdown periods are nobody's public holiday. Set each weekday to full, half or off, add your own holidays, and every calculator counts with your week. Save one configuration per office and switch between them.

๐ŸŽฏ Deadlines that agree with each other

The deadline calculator and the reverse one use the same rule in opposite directions, so 30 working days from the start lands on the deadline and 30 working days before the deadline lands on the start. The counting rules are written on the page, so you can quote them to a client or a court clerk.

๐Ÿ”’ Dates that stay with you

Court filing dates, a termination notice, the shutdown weeks of a plant, a colleague's leave: none of it leaves your browser. The settings and the history are kept in this browser's storage under the tool's own name, and the only copies that leave it are the files you download yourself.

๐Ÿ‘€ You can see the count

The calendar colours every day in the range: working, off, holiday, half. The holidays in the range are listed with their names and the day of the week. The breakdown shows each category as a count and a share of the days. When a number looks odd, the reason is on the screen.

โšก Instant, on any device

Counting a year of days takes a fraction of a millisecond, so the result changes as you change the dates. The cards stack on a phone, the date fields use the device's own picker, and both themes keep the calendar readable.

Working Days, Deadlines and Leave

๐Ÿ“ Two ways of counting

Between two dates, the question is how many working days the span contains, and whether its first and last day belong to it. A project from Monday 5 to Friday 9 has five working days with both ends included. Some contracts count "clear days" and exclude both ends; a notice "within 10 business days of receipt" usually excludes the day of receipt. Settings lets you choose. Moving by business days is different: "10 business days from today" never counts today, it counts the ten working days after it. WORKDAYS applies that fixed rule to Add/Subtract, Deadline and the reverse calculation, so they agree with each other and with common usage.

๐ŸŒ Public holidays and substitute days

Countries move a holiday that lands on a weekend in different ways. The United States observes a Saturday holiday on the Friday before and a Sunday one on the Monday after, which is why New Year's Day can be observed on 31 December. The United Kingdom, Canada and Australia give a substitute day on the next weekday, so Christmas on a Saturday becomes Monday 27 and Boxing Day Tuesday 28. Germany and France move nothing. Japan substitutes Sundays and adds a citizens' holiday for a weekday caught between two holidays. Singapore moves Sunday holidays to Monday. WORKDAYS applies each country's rule; the list under Settings shows the result for any year.

๐Ÿ–๏ธ Stretching your leave

Leave is spent only on working days, so the trick is to put the days you book next to days that are already free. Nine days away from Saturday to the following Sunday cost five leave days; if a public holiday falls on the Monday, four. Sixteen days from the Saturday before Christmas to the Sunday after New Year can cost as few as seven, depending on the country and the weekday Christmas falls on. The Leave tab counts it for you and lists the holidays inside the period; move the dates by a day and compare.

Frequently Asked Questions

How are working days between two dates counted?

Every calendar day from the start date to the end date is looked at in turn. A day that is off in your work week counts as a day off; a working day that is a public or custom holiday counts as a holiday; a half day in the work week or a custom half-day holiday counts as half a working day; everything else is a full working day. By default both the start and the end date are included; Settings lets you leave either one out, which is how some contracts count.

Is the start date counted when I add business days?

No. Adding, deadlines and the reverse calculation move from the start date one day at a time and count only the working days after it, which is the usual meaning of ten business days from today. Adding one working day to a Friday gives the next Monday, or Tuesday if the Monday is a holiday. The include-start and include-end settings apply only to counts between two dates.

Where do the public holidays come from?

They are computed by rule for any year: fixed dates, nth weekdays such as the fourth Thursday of November, Easter-based days from the Gregorian Easter computus, and each country's substitute-day rule. Holidays that follow a lunar calendar (Holi, Diwali, Chinese New Year, the Eids and others) cannot be computed that way and are listed from a table for 2025 to 2027, marked as estimated for 2027 until the official lists are out. Ten countries are covered; add anything else as a custom holiday.

Can I set a Sunday to Thursday week or half days?

Yes. Settings has presets for Monday to Friday, Monday to Saturday, Sunday to Thursday and a week with a half Saturday, and each weekday can be set to full, half or off. A half day counts as 0.5 of a working day everywhere, so results can end in .5.

Where are my settings and history stored?

In your browser's storage on this device, under the tool's own name: your work week, country, custom holidays, preferences, saved configurations and the last fifty calculations. Nothing is sent to a server and there is no account. The Settings tab exports everything to a backup file and restores it on another browser.

Is it free, and do I need an account?

It is free, with no registration and no limits. Like every page on ZeroDataUpload, it is supported by advertising.
