MindSharp FAQ

Questions and answers about the brain-training games. Everything they do happens in your browser.

1. General Questions

Q1: What is MindSharp?
A1: MindSharp is a set of six quick brain-training games that run in your browser: Memory Sequence, Pattern Recognition, Mental Math, Word Finding, Spatial Reasoning and Attention Focus. Each game is timed and levelled, a daily session plays three in a row, and the tool keeps your skill levels, personal bests, day streaks, a seven-day chart and fifteen badges. Everything is stored in the browser; nothing is uploaded and there is no account.
Q2: How much does it cost?
A2: Nothing. There is no plan, no limit and no feature held back. Like every page on ZeroDataUpload, the tool is supported by advertising.
Q3: Do I need an account?
A3: No. There is no registration and no login. Open the page and click Start today's session.
Q4: Does brain training make me smarter?
A4: The honest answer from the research is: you get better at the tasks you practise, and some of that carries to closely related tasks, but there is little evidence that it raises general intelligence or protects against decline. MindSharp is a daily workout for memory, arithmetic, attention and quick thinking that you can measure and enjoy; it is not a medical product and makes no health claim.
Q5: How long should I train?
A5: A session of three one-minute games takes about five minutes with the countdowns and result windows. Once a day is plenty; the streak rewards regularity, not length. If you enjoy it, a second session later in the day does no harm.
Q6: Can I play on a phone?
A6: Yes. The games use big tap targets, the math and word games open the right keyboard, and the dashboard stacks one card above the other. Sound effects play if the phone is not on silent.

2. The Games

Q7: How does Memory Sequence work?
A7: Cells on a grid light up one after another. When the last one goes dark, tap the cells back in the same order. A right tap flashes green; a wrong one flashes red and a new sequence starts. The grid begins at three by three with four steps and grows with the level to five by five and nine steps.
Q8: What rules does Pattern Recognition use?
A8: Three: a constant step (3, 7, 11, 15), a constant multiplier (2, 6, 18, 54) or each number the sum of the previous two (2, 3, 5, 8). Four numbers are shown and you pick the fifth from four choices that all lie near the answer. The step gets bigger as the level rises.
Q9: What does Mental Math ask?
A9: Addition and subtraction with numbers up to 20 at levels one and two; addition, subtraction and multiplication with numbers up to 50 (multipliers up to 10) at levels three and four; numbers up to 100 and multipliers up to 12 from level five. Subtractions never go negative. Type the answer and press Enter or tap Submit.
Q10: Where do the words in Word Finding come from?
A10: From three fixed lists of everyday English words: three-letter words at levels one and two, five-letter words at levels three and four, and words of six to nine letters from level five. The letters are shuffled so the scramble is never the word itself. Capital letters are not needed; the answer is checked without regard to case.
Q11: How does Spatial Reasoning decide what matches?
A11: A shape is shown turned by 0, 90, 180 or 270 degrees, and the four options show the same shape at each of those four angles in random order. Only the one at the target's angle is right. The shapes are chosen so that turning them changes how they look; a circle would be pointless.
Q12: What counts in Attention Focus?
A12: A grid hides three to six copies of a target symbol among similar ones. Tap every copy; a right tap turns green, a wrong one red. The round is complete when all copies are found. Wrong taps count as attempts, so they lower your accuracy, and the grid grows from four by four to seven by seven with the level.

3. Scoring, Levels and Difficulty

Q13: How is the score worked out?
A13: Each correct answer scores 10 points times the current level, so a level 3 answer is worth 30. In adaptive mode the level rises by one every five correct answers within a game. The score goes into the skill's experience points at the end; every 100 points is a level, and your best single-game score is kept.
Q14: What is adaptive difficulty?
A14: With Adaptive selected, each game starts at that skill's current level (from your experience points) and rises by one every five correct answers during the game. Easy, Medium and Hard instead start every game at level 1, 3 or 5 and keep it there. Adaptive is the default and the one that keeps each game just above what you find easy.
Q15: What is the overall level?
A15: The average of your six skill levels, rounded down, with a name beside it: Beginner up to level 2, Intermediate from 3, Advanced from 5, Expert from 8.
Q16: What is accuracy in the result window?
A16: Correct answers divided by attempts. In most games every answer is an attempt; in Attention Focus each wrong tap is an attempt and a completed grid is one correct answer. A game with no answers shows 0%.
Q17: Can I change the time per game?
A17: Yes. Settings offers 30 seconds, 1 minute (the default), 1.5 minutes and 2 minutes. The timer turns amber at 20 seconds and red at 10, and the game ends when it reaches zero; a round in progress at that moment is not scored.

4. Sessions, Streaks and Badges

Q18: What is in the daily session?
A18: Three of the six games, picked at random, played one after another. The result window between them shows Next game until the last one. A custom session on the Games tab draws its three games from only the skills you have ticked; tick one skill and you get that game three times.
Q19: What counts as a day streak?
A19: Finishing at least one game on a calendar day. Play on consecutive days and the streak grows; miss a day and it starts again from one on your next game. The best streak is kept for the badges. Days are counted in your own time zone.
Q20: Which badges are there?
A20: Fifteen: your first game; 5, 10, 25 and 50 games; a 3-day and a 7-day streak; level 5 in each of the six skills; level 3 in all six; and a single-game score of 500 or more. The Badges tab shows them all, lit when unlocked, with the count in the corner.
Q21: Does Today's score reset?
A21: Yes, at midnight in your time zone it goes back to zero; the games themselves stay in the history and the seven-day chart. The earlier version of MindSharp never reset it, which is why an old total may look large before your first game on the new page.

5. Saving, Exporting and Privacy

Q22: Where are my scores stored?
A22: In your browser's storage on this device, under the tool's own name: the levels, bests, streaks, the last fifty games, the badges and the settings. Nothing is sent to a server and there is no account. Export writes it all to a file; Import reads it back on another computer; Reset deletes it.
Q23: How do I move my progress to another computer?
A23: Export on the Progress tab (or under Settings) downloads a file named mind-sharp-progress-<date>.json. On the other computer open MindSharp, choose Settings, Import a file, pick that file and confirm. The import replaces what is in that browser with the file's contents, so export there first if it holds anything you want.
Q24: I played MindSharp at its old address. Is my progress gone?
A24: If you open the tool in the same browser and the old data is still in its storage, it is read once, carried over to the new storage name and the old copies are removed. Progress from a different browser or computer has to come across as an exported file.
Q25: What happens if I clear my browser data?
A25: The progress goes with it, as with any site data. A private or incognito window keeps nothing after it closes either. Export now and then if the record matters to you.
Q26: Does the page use cookies or send anything?
A26: The tool itself sends nothing and sets no cookies; its storage is the browser's own, under its own name. Like every page on ZeroDataUpload, the page shows ads through Google AdSense and uses Google Analytics, and the cookie banner controls the analytics cookies; the Privacy Policy and Cookie Policy explain what those services collect. Your scores are never part of it.

6. Troubleshooting

Q27: There is no sound.
A27: Check the Sound effects switch under Settings and the device volume. Browsers block sound a page starts on its own until you have clicked somewhere on it; the Start button counts, so the first countdown may be silent only if the page was opened and left untouched.
Q28: The timer ran out before I could answer.
A28: Set a longer time per game under Settings, or a lower fixed difficulty. In Memory Sequence the sequence itself takes several seconds to show; at high levels a nine-step sequence uses about six seconds of the minute.
Q29: My streak reset although I played yesterday.
A29: Streaks count calendar days in the time zone of the device. Playing on a different device, or clearing site data, loses the record; and a game started before midnight but finished after it counts for the new day.
Q30: The keyboard shortcuts do nothing.
A30: The keys 1 to 5 switch between the five tabs outside a game, and only when no field has the focus. During a game the keys type into the answer field. Esc closes a confirmation window.
Q31: How do I start over completely?
A31: Settings, Reset all data, then confirm. Every score, level, streak, badge and setting the tool stored in this browser is removed. Export first if you want a copy.
