Life Discipline Tracker FAQ

Questions and answers about the daily habit tracker. Everything it does happens in your browser.

1. General Questions

Q1: What is the Life Discipline Tracker?
A1: A daily tracker that runs in your browser. It comes with 23 life areas and 963 ready-made items, from "Made bed" and "Hours of sleep" to "Phone-free meals" and "Kept promise to self", each weighted by importance. You fill in the items that matter to you each day, the tool scores each area and the day as a whole, keeps streaks, XP, levels and badges, shows a month heatmap and weekly insights, and stores all of it in the browser. Nothing is uploaded and there is no account.
Q2: How much does it cost?
A2: Nothing. There is no plan, no limit and no feature held back. Like every page on ZeroDataUpload, the tool is supported by advertising.
Q3: Do I need an account?
A3: No. There is no registration and no login. Open the page, click an area and start answering.
Q4: Do I have to fill in all 963 items every day?
A4: Not at all. Items you leave blank are simply ignored by the score, so they cost you nothing. A typical start is a few items in one or two areas you care about, with the optional areas you do not need switched off in Settings. Because the score averages only what you recorded, a handful of honest entries is enough to be meaningful.
Q5: Which areas are there?
A5: Daily Routine, Sleep, Health and Fitness, Nutrition, Hydration, Personal Hygiene, Social Life, Work and Career, Financial, Learning and Growth, Goals and Projects, Emotional Wellness, Mindfulness, Digital Wellness, Home Environment, Recreation and Joy, Time Management and Self-Discipline are on from the start. Marriage or Partner, Dating, Parenting, Family and Spiritual are optional and off until you switch them on. Custom holds your own items.
Q6: Does it work on a phone?
A6: Yes. The cards stack one above the other, the yes buttons and stars are sized for a thumb, and the number items open the numeric keyboard. The jump list at the top takes you straight to an area.

2. Scoring

Q7: How is the daily score worked out?
A7: Every item you complete gets a value between 0 and 100: a yes scores 100, a rating of 3 out of 5 scores 50, a number is compared with its target and a time with how close it was to the target time. Items then count by importance (critical three times, high twice, medium once, low half). An area's score averages its completed items with those weights, and the day's score averages your tracked areas, with sleep, self-discipline and relationships weighted above areas such as hydration or home.
Q8: How are numbers scored?
A8: Against the item's target: reaching it or more scores 100, half of it scores 50. For items where less is better, such as screen time, snoozes, night wakings or sleep debt, staying at or under the target scores 100 and the score falls as you go over. A number item with no target scores 50 when filled in, as a credit for tracking it.
Q9: How are times scored?
A9: By the distance from the target time: 100 within five minutes, 90 within fifteen, 70 within thirty, 50 within an hour, 25 within two hours and 0 beyond. Wake-up at 6:12 against a 6:00 target scores 90.
Q10: What does the importance chip on an item mean?
A10: Its weight in the area's score. Critical counts three times, High twice, Medium once and Low half. Items marked Info are recorded for your own interest and never scored, for example "Slept in (weekend)".
Q11: Why do the areas have different weights?
A11: Because they do not matter equally to a day. Sleep, Self-Discipline, Partner, Dating and Parenting weigh 1.5 times in the overall score; Emotional Wellness 1.3; Health and Work 1.2; most others once; Hydration, Hygiene, Home and Recreation 0.8. The weight shows under each area's name and in Settings.

3. Streaks, XP and Badges

Q12: What counts as a streak?
A12: Any unbroken sequence of days on which you filled in at least one item, using your local time zone. A streak that reached yesterday stays alive until today is over, so it does not drop to zero each morning before you log. The perfect-day streak counts consecutive days with a score of 80 percent or higher.
Q13: What are XP, levels and badges for?
A13: They reward turning up. Saving the day's entry earns 10 XP, with extra for scores over 50, 70 and 90 and one more XP for each streak day (up to 30), counted once a day. Your XP climbs through ten levels, from Beginner to Legend, and fifteen badges celebrate things like streaks, perfect weeks, early starts, exercise, reading, meditation, screen-time limits and returning after a break.
Q14: I pressed Save entry twice. Did I get XP twice?
A14: No. The day's XP is awarded once, however many areas you save or how often. Badges are awarded once each.
Q15: Which items do the badges read?
A15: Early Bird reads "Wake up time" in Daily Routine (before 6:00 on 30 days). Fitness Freak reads "Exercised" in Health, Zen Master "Meditated" in Mindfulness, Digital Detoxer "Met screen time limits" in Digital Wellness and Bookworm "Read today" in Learning, each 30 days in a row. Money Master needs the Financial area at 80% or more on 30 days. Perfect Month needs your last 30 tracked days to average 80% or more. Bounce Back unlocks the first time you track again after a gap of three days or more.
Q16: What are the ten levels?
A16: Beginner (0 XP), Novice (100), Apprentice (300), Practitioner (600), Skilled (1,000), Advanced (1,500), Expert (2,200), Master (3,000), Grandmaster (4,000) and Legend (5,500). The bar in the toolbar shows how far you are to the next one.

4. Custom Items

Q17: Can I add my own items?
A17: Yes, in the Custom area: a name, the type (yes/no, number with a target and unit, 1 to 5 stars, or a time with a target), an importance and a short hint. Up to a hundred custom items can be kept. They score and weigh like the built-in ones and the Custom area weighs once in the overall score.
Q18: Can I reorder, pin or edit them?
A18: Yes. The buttons under each custom item pin it to the top, move it up or down, duplicate it, edit it or delete it. Deleting removes today's value for it; older days keep what they recorded.
Q19: Can I add items to a built-in area?
A19: Not inside that area; the built-in catalogue is fixed so that every day scores the same way. Put the item in Custom instead; it counts towards the overall score all the same.

5. History and Insights

Q20: What does the heatmap show?
A20: Every day of the month, darker for a higher overall score: five shades for 1 to 20%, 21 to 40% and so on, grey for a day with nothing tracked, and a ring around today. Hover over a day to read its score. The arrows move month by month.
Q21: What is "What moves your day"?
A21: Once you have fourteen tracked days, the tool compares each area's daily score with the score of the rest of that day and reports the three areas with the strongest link, with the correlation (r) and the number of days behind it. A positive link means days with a better score in that area tend to be better days elsewhere. It is computed from your own entries, not a fixed saying, and needs at least ten days where both exist.
Q22: How are weekly averages and best weekdays worked out?
A22: Weekly averages are each area's mean score over the days of the last seven that you tracked it. Best weekdays average the overall score of every tracked day by weekday and rank the top three, with the number of days behind each.

6. Data, Backup and Privacy

Q23: Where is my data stored?
A23: Everything, from daily entries and custom items to XP, badges and settings, lives in this browser on this device. There is no account and nothing goes to a server. Export saves a backup file that Import can load on another computer, and Reset erases it all.
Q24: How do I move my data to another computer?
A24: Settings, Export backup downloads a file named life-discipline-backup-<date>.json. On the other computer open the tool, choose Settings, Import backup, pick that file and confirm. The import replaces what is in that browser with the file's contents, so export there first if it holds anything you want. Backups from the earlier version of the tool are accepted.
Q25: I used the tracker at its old address. Is my data gone?
A25: If you open the tool in the same browser and the old data is still in its storage, it is read once, checked, carried over to the new storage name and the old copies are removed. Data from another browser or computer has to come across as a backup file.
Q26: What happens if I clear my browser data?
A26: The entries go with it, as with any site data. A private window keeps nothing after it closes either. Export a backup now and then if the record matters to you.
Q27: Does the page use cookies or send anything?
A27: The tool itself sends nothing and sets no cookies; its storage is the browser's own, under its own name. Like every page on ZeroDataUpload, the page shows ads through Google AdSense and uses Google Analytics, and the cookie banner controls the analytics cookies; the Privacy Policy and Cookie Policy explain what those services collect. Your entries are never part of it.

7. Troubleshooting

Q28: My streak dropped to zero.
A28: A day with nothing filled in breaks the run; the run is counted in the device's time zone, so a different device, a cleared browser or a restored backup from another day can change it. The best streak stays on record, and Bounce Back is waiting when you start again.
Q29: An entry I made late in the evening appears under the next day.
A29: That was a fault of the earlier version, which dated entries by universal time; entries made after 18:30 Indian time, for example, landed on the next date. This version uses your local date. Entries carried over from the old data keep the dates they were stored under.
Q30: The score shows 0% although I answered items.
A30: Items answered No, rated one star, at zero of a target, or far from a target time score 0, and that is what a 0% means. Items marked Info never score. Check the item chips; a critical item answered No pulls the area down hard.
Q31: I cannot find an area.
A31: It is switched off. Open Settings and turn it on; it appears on the dashboard and in the jump list at once. Its earlier entries are kept while it is off and count again when it is on.
Q32: How do I start over completely?
A32: Settings, Reset all data, then confirm. Every entry, custom item, badge, XP and setting the tool stored in this browser is removed. Export a backup first if you want a copy.
