StickyBoard FAQ
Questions and answers about the kanban board. Everything it does happens in your browser.

1. General Questions
Q1: What is StickyBoard?
A1: A kanban board that runs in your browser. You create boards, each with columns such as To Do, In Progress and Done, and fill them with colour-coded sticky notes that carry a title, a description and a due date. Notes are dragged from column to column as work moves along, searched, duplicated, archived or deleted, and a board or all your boards can be exported to a file and imported elsewhere. Nothing is uploaded and there is no account.
Q2: How much does it cost?
A2: Nothing. There is no plan, no limit and no feature held back. Like every page on ZeroDataUpload, the tool is supported by advertising.
Q3: Do I need an account?
A3: No. There is no registration and no login. Press New board and start writing notes.
Q4: How many boards, columns and notes can I have?
A4: There is no fixed limit. The only ceiling is the space the browser gives this site, typically around 5 MB, enough for thousands of notes. Every board keeps its own columns and archive, and you switch boards from the toolbar. New boards come with To Do, In Progress and Done, all of which can be renamed, moved or removed.
Q5: Does it work on a phone?
A5: Yes. The columns scroll sideways and snap into place one at a time, the note buttons are always visible, and a note moves between columns from its edit window, because a finger cannot drag the way a mouse does. Everything else works the same.
Q6: Can several people work on one board?
A6: Not at the same time: there is no server to share through. You can hand a board to someone by exporting it to a file and sending the file; they import it and get their own copy. For a team board that everyone edits live you need a hosted tool.
2. Boards and Columns
Q7: How do I rename or delete a board?
A7: With the pencil and bin buttons beside the board list in the toolbar. Deleting asks for confirmation and removes the board with every column, note and archived note; export it first if you may want it back.
Q8: How do I add, rename, reorder or delete a column?
A8: Add column in the toolbar, or the dashed "+ Add column" at the right end of the board, adds one at the end. The pencil on a column header renames it, the bin deletes it with its notes after a confirmation, and dragging the header left or right reorders the columns.
Q9: Which column names should I use?
A9: Whatever matches the stages your work goes through. To Do, In Progress and Done suit most things; writers use Idea, Drafting, Review, Published; a team of one might use Backlog, This Week, Doing, Blocked, Done. Fewer columns are easier to keep honest than many.
3. Sticky Notes
Q10: What can a note hold?
A10: A title of up to 120 characters, a description of up to 2,000 (line breaks are kept), an optional due date and one of eight colours. The card shows the title, the first lines of the description, the due date with a mark when it is near or past, and the word count.
Q11: How do I move a note?
A11: With a mouse, drag the note where you want it, into another column or higher or lower in the same one; a gap marks the drop point. On touch screens or by keyboard, choose Edit on the note and select a different column from the Column list, which places the note at the bottom of that column. To rearrange columns, drag them by their header.
Q12: What do the colours mean?
A12: The meaning is up to you; none of the eight colours (yellow, pink, blue, green, purple, orange, red and cyan) has a fixed purpose. Many people use red for urgent, green for approved, purple for ideas, cyan for meetings and yellow for everything else. Separately, a due date turns a note's date mark amber when it is two days away and red once it has passed.
Q13: What does Duplicate do?
A13: It makes a copy of the note right under the original, with "(copy)" added to the title, keeping the description, colour and due date. Useful for recurring tasks or for splitting one task into several.
Q14: Can I undo a deletion?
A14: No. After you confirm, a deleted note, column or board is gone for good. If you might need a note again, archive it: the board's archive remembers which column it came from, and Restore returns it to the first column. Before removing a whole board, export a backup.
Q15: Where do archived notes go?
A15: Into the Archived Notes card under the board, which appears as soon as the board has one and shows the count. Show opens the list, newest first, each note with the column it came from. Restore returns it to the first column; the bin deletes it for good.
4. Search and Shortcuts
Q16: How does the search work?
A16: Type in the search box and every note on the open board whose title or description does not contain the words is hidden, across all columns. Clear the box to see them all again. Archived notes are not searched. Switching boards clears the search.
Q17: Which keyboard shortcuts are there?
A17: When no field has the focus and no window is open: N opens a new note in the first column, B a new board, C a new column, / jumps to the search box, E exports the open board, and Esc closes any window. Enter in a window's name or title field saves it.
5. Data, Backup and Privacy
Q18: Where are my boards stored?
A18: In your browser's storage on this device, under the tool's own name. Nothing is sent to a server, there is no account and no sync. Like every page on the site, the tool page shows ads through Google AdSense and uses Google Analytics; the Privacy Policy and Cookie Policy explain what those collect and how the cookie banner controls them. Your notes are never part of it.
Q19: How do I back up or move my boards to another computer?
A19: Export board writes the open board to a file; Export all writes every board to one file. On the other computer, Import reads either kind and adds the boards to what is already there, with "(imported)" added to a name that already exists. Files from the earlier version of StickyBoard import too.
Q20: What happens if I clear my browser data?
A20: The boards go with it, and the tool has no other copy. Export all before clearing site data, switching browsers or reinstalling, and keep the file somewhere safe.
Q21: I used the earlier version of StickyBoard. Are my boards still there?
A21: Yes, if it is the same browser and site data was not cleared. On the first visit the tool reads the old boards, checks every value, carries them over to its new storage and removes the old copies.
6. Troubleshooting
Q22: Dragging a note does nothing.
A22: Dragging needs a mouse or trackpad; on a touch screen open the note with Edit and pick the column instead. With a mouse, press on the note's body, not on its buttons, and drop it inside a column; the dashed slot shows where it will land.
Q23: My notes do not save.
A23: The browser's site data is blocked or full, or this is a private window. Allow site data for zerodataupload.com, free some space, and export your boards to a file so nothing is lost while you sort it out.
Q24: A board I imported has "(imported)" after its name.
A24: A board with that name already existed, so the new one was marked to tell them apart. Rename either with the pencil button.
Q25: How do I start over?
A25: Delete the boards one by one with the bin button beside the board list, each after a confirmation. Export all first if you want a copy.
